Roaming Profile : A roaming user profile is a concept in the Windows NT family of operating systems that allows users with a computer joined to a Windows Server domain to log on to any computer on the same network and access their documents and have a consistent desktop experience, such as applications remembering toolbar positions and preferences, or the desktop appearance staying the same.
AD server name – Server2012.server.world
Ad ip address – 192.168.0.100
client name – client-1-PC.server.world
client ip address- – 192.168.0.102
As we can see in the below image there are two users Ajay and Nayan and these two users are also the member of a group “HR-user”.
Step 1 : we have to create one folder for the roaming profile , in my scenario the folder name is Profile
Step 2 : Now open the profile folder properties and provide the required permissions
Go to properties then sharing then Advance sharing
Select the “Share this folder” option and in the share name provide the “$” for the hidden share and then click on permissions
After click on permission remove the everyone and add HR-users group and give them read-change allow permission.
Step 3 : Now go to security then Advanced
Step 4 : Click on disable inheritance
Then select the option “converted inherited permission in to explicit permission on this object” and then remove both the entries of the users.
Step 5: Now click on Add then select principal
Now go to applies to section and click on the option “This folder only” then click on “show advance permission”
Select the desired options
- Create read/write
Step 6 : Now open the command prompt and run the command net share to view the shared drive
Step 7: Open the active directory users and computers and then right click on both the users and open the properties
Then go to profile and there mention the profile path like
Then click on Apply then OK
Step 8 : Now we can open the shared folder which we have created for profiles , there we can see our user names and their data.
