Shavlik protect can be used to scan and deploy patches to the virtual machine in your network regardless whether they are online or offline.
Step 1: Define Virtual machine in machine group. Click on sample machine group.
Step 2: For example this sample machine group, we can see that there are some machine , one is template and the other one is physical machine. So the recommended best practice is to create to similar group of machines, some organisation prefer to create a machine group that consist of nothing but virtual machines.
Step 3 : Now add some virtual machine which are hosted on the server go to the hosted virtual machine tab and add the virtual machine, select the machine which we want to add and click on Add machine to group. The machine we are adding is added with the browse credentials
Step 4 : Now we have to provide the admin credentials to the virtual machine which we have added recently , go to the virtual machine the go to credentials tab and then click on set admin credentials .
Step 5 : Now click on RUN OPERATION and scan now, the operation monitor show the status of the scanning of patches.
The default view is scanned view which can be used to review the results for the machine we have scanned , now if the virtual machine is powered on , it will be treated as the physical machine and the icon is same as the physical machine have , another way to see the result is the machine view , for that
Step 6: click on machine then click on view
To view patch results to an individual virtual machine, simply select that machine and then click on patch missing in the below dialog box
Note : Before deploying the patch to a virtiual machine , you should verify that your deployment template specifies the proper snapshot options.
Step 7 : Click on machine group then Templete then sample deployment template then hosted vm/templetes
Step 8 : To deploy the patch simply right click and click deploy then selected patch then select sample deployment template then click deploy
